COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:
Grilled Beer Brats with Red Cabbage Kraut
Red Cabbage Sauerkraut
- Heat 1 Tbsp oil in pan over medium heat. Add caraway seeds and cook until fragrant (1-2 minutes).
- Add onion and cabbage and cook until cabbage starts to wilt. Stir in 2 Tbsp vinegar, salt, and pepper, then cook for another 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat. Let cool for a half hour.
- Stir in remaining 2 Tbsp vinegar and 1 Tbsp oil. Serve on top of brats or as a side.
Grilled Beer Brats
- In a pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Sauté onions until slightly softened. Season with red pepper, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Add beer and bring to a boil. Add brats and maintain a low boil. Cook for 6 minutes.
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Once brats are done boiling, remove to grill and, rotating every 2 minutes or so, cook on top rack until brats are browned and reach an internal temperature of 160º.
- To build brat sandwich, add mustard to inside of hoagie bun. Add brat, then top with sauerkraut and beer cheese. Enjoy!
