Italian Fried Meatballs Recipe

This Italian Fried Meatballs recipe takes the traditional meatball and, well, fries it. Because everything is better fried, right? The meatball itself is made from 50/50 ground beef and Italian sausage and a whole lot of garlic, onion, Italian herbs, and gooey cheese. And don’t forget the milk—never forget the milk. That’s what keeps these meatballs so succulent.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:
Italian Fried Meatballs

  1. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except mozzarella. Be sure not to overwork the ground meat, as you’ll end up with a tougher meatball (not tender and juicy).
  2. Working one at time, take some meatball mixture and form a 2” diameter patty in your palm. Place a cube of mozzarella in the center, then fold the mixture around it and roll it into a ball shape. Set aside on parchment paper.
  3. Place flour, eggs, and breadcrumbs in separate bowls. To bread the meatballs, dredge in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. Set aside on parchment paper.
  4. Add ~2” deep of oil to a large frying pan and heat to 325º. Be sure to maintain 300º-325º throughout the frying process. Working 5 or 6 meatballs at a time, fry for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oil and set on paper towel-lined dish to drain. Serve immediately garnished with shredded parmesan cheese and marinara sauce for dipping.
