Spicy Luther Burger Recipe

You can take this Spicy Luther Burger to karaoke night, set it up onstage, put a microphone in front of it, and watch it bring down the house with “The Power of Love”. Seriously—the crowd is sure to eat it up. (Camera shifts to a little white duck hitting a punchline rimshot in front of a tiny drum set).

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:
Spicy Luther Burger

  1. Preheat griddle or cast iron pan to medium-high heat.
  2. Cook bacon slices for 4-6 minutes per side, or until desired crispness. Remove and let drain on paper toweled-lined plate.
  3. Turn up griddle/pan heat to high.
  4. Be sure to keep ground beef in fridge until ready to grill. Divide beef into 4 even, loosely packed balls. Be sure not to overwork the meat.
  5. To grill smash burgers: using a small piece of parchment paper, place 1 beef ball on the griddle and, leaving the parchment paper over top of beef, use a burger press to smash beef into as thin a patty as possible. Remove press and parchment paper. Repeat with remaining beef balls (you might have to work in batches, depending on your griddle/cast iron surface area). Immediately season all patties to taste with seasoned salt, then top with desired amount of onions (the more the better!). After about 1-2 minutes, flip each patty so that the onions are completely under the patty. Immediately season the other side with more season salt and top with 1 slice American cheese. After another 2 minutes or so, remove patties (with onion underneath each patty) from grill and set aside.
  6. Grill each donut half cut side-down for 1-2 minutes or until char marks form (but donut is not overly toasted or burnt). Remove and set aside.
  7. To build each burger: place 1 burger patty/onion on the cut side of a donut half. Top with 2 pieces of bacon (broken in half to make 4 pieces). Top with another burger patty/onion, chili crisp to taste, then another donut half. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Enjoy!
